For the record though, I think Man. U’s Rio Ferdinand is the best attacking defender while Barcelona’s Carles Puyol is a close second. Yes, this statement was made by one that supports both Chelsea and Real Madrid passionately, but you have to give credit where credit is due. All this being said though, I put RM’s Sergio Ramos in third place on this list and have high hopes for Jose Bosingwa.

Anyway you mention Ferdinand and Puyol as the best attacking defender but in what sense are you talking about? As going up for corner kicks they are strong but they are not given the same license as full backs to get forward as they central defenders.

By attacking, I mean creating plays on the opposing teams net and scoring the occasional goal. But I just learned that the roles of left right and center backs are unique, so thanx much!
