The UEFA head honcho hits it on the head about this fiasco. Here’s quick recap…
While David Beckham is currently under contract to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in America, they’ve “loaned” him to AC Milan in Italy for three months. He’s supposed to return when the three months are up-the end of March-but prefers to remain at AC and has brought in lawyers to help him do so. His reasoning for all this? The football he’s playing in Milan is much more competitive than that of the Galaxy, and the more competitive footie he plays, the more fit he is to play for the English national team (his true soccer love) in next year’s World Cup.
UEFA prez, Michel Platini has mostly stayed quiet about this, until now. He makes some VERY good points while talking to the International Herald Tribune, saying short term loans like this may get out of hand if allowed. “You buy five players for the final,” he points out. “We have to look at it.”
Regular media outlets and the blogosphere have been covering this since the story broke about ten days ago. I’ve posted about this once or twice and think he showed remain at Milan.
